It’s Time To Talk About The 2012 Yamaha R6 – What Do You Want To See?

What do you want from the next iteration of R6? There are rumors floating about that it’s going to be a MotoGP look-alike. I find this hard to believe. While that design may be some percentage more aerodynamic than the current sporty look it won’t help sales as much as a baddass looking bike.

It’s also completely true (I’ve talked to people in Yamaha) that the R6 is NOT getting a cross-plane crankshaft. The engine size just won’t support it. I’m not a mechanical engineer so I have to take their word for it. I don’t think they would shoot that idea down if it weren’t untrue.

Yamaha is going to have some serious competition from the other manufacturers. Suzuki just slashed 20 pounds (410 lb. curb weight!) off the GSXR-600 and finally added some full sized brakes. Apparently Suzuki isn’t resting on their 300,000 bikes sold laurels. Smart move.  Kawasaki, I can’t tell if they’ve done anything. Fail. Honda continues to innovate with ABS, electronic steering dampers, but like Yamaha, pushed their “new” bike back a year.

I’d like to see something besides “bold new graphics.”

What’s your wish list for this new bike? Updated look? New engine? Better suspension?

P.S. On a somewhat unrelated note I haven’t written about any reader rides lately. I’d like to. Send me your detailz, picz, vidz, and anything else that may make your bike look AWESOME! My email is admin@r6blog.com.

Cheers!

The bike is at the peak of sexiness, I hope they do not change much as far as looks but having the best engine in the 600s would be nice, like they did back in 2008 I believe it was, really looking forward to it, one thing I hope they bring to it is the evil looking headlights that the new R1's have, that would just be

Just make sure is does NOT start to look like the R1 – the design department lost it on the R1. my 07 R6 looks fast, sleek, and sexy… the R1 looks like an overweight bull with mean eyes and big fat bel

Bob December 30, 2010 at 8:12 am

keep the R6's smooth curvy lines – don't start boxing up and squaring off the edges like the R1…. I know emissions are getting tougher – but get the exhaust can short

Get a better suspension package for the 99% of us who dont do track days every weekend and want to tune it for the canyon carving weekends and the urban jungle… Sacrifice top end for more Useable low end and midrange power for the 99% of us who dont need to go +120mph… just my 2ce

So Bob, did you get your '07 in '06? How've you been riding a three year old bike for four years?

Jeff December 30, 2010 at 10:45 am

just as long as they do something with the low end power and a bit to the mid range and get rid of that long can . some projector head lights would be nice to .they need to add a factory cowl seat cover like su

Those who have been up close to a 2010 Yamaha M1 MotoGP bike can all vouch that this bike has a truly incredible sleek appearance.. Rossi would have it no other way. We can only hope that this look has been integrated into the new 2012 R6 design. I would personally like to see more “quick-track” changeable bits like a quick-removable rear light/plate unit, and quick release rear view mirrors. Reverse shift link! MotoGP technology such as traction control, selectable mapping, full LED/LCD display panel… get rid of analog. Quick shifter, integrated steering stablizer (electronic), race style front forks, and last but not least, Brembos up front and in the rear. I have been waiting for this bike for 3 years now. I can’t wait to see the final product. I wish Yamaha would post some teaser pics.

TJ Kastning January 2, 2011 at 12:48 am

I couldn’t agree more Mike. Have you seen the MotoGP bike up close. That’s like the holy grail of motorcycles.

German Corona August 5, 2011 at 4:41 pm

I would like to see a different exhaust, engine maps (like Suzuki) and a steering dumper (an electronic one would be great!). I hope they don’t touch the bodywork…R6 is soooooo sexy! :-P
